The Dog House Free Spins: What the Sticky Wilds Are Really Worth

Three scatters buy ten free spins, and almost everything the game pays back is inside them. Here is how the sticky wilds and their multipliers stack, and where the Megaways version differs.

The Megaways version keeps the dogs and replaces the paylines.

The base game of The Dog House is mostly a waiting room. The round that matters starts when three paw-print scatters land, and what happens next is the reason the slot is rated high volatility.

How the round is built

Three scatters award ten free spins. On reels two, three and four, any wild that lands sticks in place for the rest of the round and carries a multiplier — 2x or 3x — that applies to every win it takes part in. Wilds accumulate, so a spin late in the round can be resolved against a board that has been filling up since the first one.

Why the order matters

  • Early wilds — worth the most, because every remaining spin is played against them.

  • Stacked multipliers — two sticky wilds on one payline multiply together, which is where the large results come from.

  • Late wilds — pay once or twice and then the round is over.

Retriggers

Three more scatters inside the round add another ten spins, and the sticky wilds already on the board stay. That combination — a full middle section and a fresh set of spins — is the practical route to the top of the paytable, and it is rare.

Nothing in the round is a decision. The only choice the game gives you is the stake, which is worth remembering before paying for a bonus buy.

What changes

The Dog House

3 scatters, 10 spins

Sticky wilds with 2x/3x on reels 2–4

Megaways

3 scatters, 12 spins

Ways-based board, unlimited win multiplier that steps up per tumble

Multihold

Scatters per grid

Several grids run side by side, each with its own hold feature

They share a name and an art style, not a maths model — a strategy written for one does not carry across. The Megaways breakdown covers the ways-based version on its own terms.

The bonus buy

Where it is offered, buying the feature costs a fixed multiple of the stake and drops you straight into the round. It does not change the RTP of the feature; it changes how fast you reach it, which means the same expected return arrives with far less time and far more variance. That is a session-length decision, not a value one.
